In New York's first congressional district Bishop has gained himself a 12 point lead in the polls over Republican Randy Altschuler and appears to be holding onto his seat for another two years.
In the 19th district Democrat John Hall is in a dead heat with Republican challenger Nan Hayworth. This was a district that voted for Bush both terms and had a Republican holding the seat until the Democratic sweep of 2006. These are the states were it appears Democrats are going to lose major ground. This an others like it will decide who controls the House after the election.
In New York's 23rd district, There is a battle between Democrat Bill Owens and Matt Doheny. Conservative Party backed Doug Hoffman was talked about going to run as a third party candidate but has opted out. While his name remains on the ballot he has endorsed Doheny and may allow for Republicans to take the district back from the Democrats.
